Jeremy Tarroux, flawless!
The story of the day is obviously the Jeremy Tarroux wave… Aggressive and agile, the Frenchman, who was 2nd last year, delivered a flawless performance on this first day, or almost… Facing two world enduro champions, he took four podiums out of five special stages, including a win in Scratch 2… But while Tarroux dominated the day on merit, he received a sad 10-second penalty for crossing the 20m line at the start without the engine’s assistance. He dropped to 4th place overall.
From 10th to 8th, the riders are within less than two seconds of each other. Alexis Beaud, 10th at the end of the day, preferred to keep something in reserve. The race lasts 3 days, and he didn’t want to make any mistakes. In 9th place, Luc Fargier, on his first day at the Trèfle Lozérien AMV, first time in a classic race, and a first top 10. A good start for the Junior 2 World Champion (2022). Jérémy Miroir placed 8th, very satisfied with his new bike, the 310 Fantic, a great day for the 31st finisher of the last Dakar…
It’s a surprise, Till de Clercq, last year’s winner, tried too hard and made several small mistakes. He’s 26 seconds behind the leader in 7th place. Hugo Blanjoue, number 14, feared this Friday. But the Honda rider found his rhythm towards the end of the day and finished 6th. 4th at Val de Lorraine, 2nd at Grappe de Cyrano, there’s room for the policeman.
In 5th place, Killian Lunier is 21 seconds behind the leader. A light rain in SP4 almost sent him off twice, and a rebellious stake caused him to stall in the final scratch. The 2nd day should suit him better.
In 4th place, we find the unfortunate Jérémy Tarroux.
Ahead of him, there’s another surprise. Valérian Debaud finishes 3rd on this magnificent day, one that will remain etched in his memory. The Val de Lorraine winner dominated Verona twice and Garcia twice in the special stages.
Garcia, the Enduro 1 World Champion, second in the standings, started well with wins in SP1 and SP3 but fell in SP5.
Andrea Verona therefore leads after Tarroux’s disqualification. He finished strong by winning the last two special stages. The Enduro 2 World Champion is aiming for his first win in Lozère. Only two seconds separate Verona from Debaud. Tarroux is more than eight seconds behind. Another tight group from 5th to 7th place with less than five seconds between Lunier and Declercq.
On to the second day, heading to Aubrac !
