36TH TRÈFLE LOZÉRIEN AMV: VERONA DOES NOT LET GO

Andrea Verona doesn’t let go

Second beautiful day in the broom fields of the Margeride highlands. Five stages on the programme with a little more than sixteen minutes of cumulative time and only 1,796 seconds of difference between the leader Josep Garcia and his runner-up, Andrea Verona, who maintains a constant pressure. Nothing is decided after two days of racing on this 36th edition of the Trèfle Lozérien AMV.

The Garcia / Verona duel

Andrea Verona was the quickest to wake up this morning, winning the first special stage of the day just ahead of grassy and virgin SP specialists, Emmanuel Albepart and Julien Gauthier. Josep Garcia “only” set the 4th time, 2.430 behind the leader. But the KTM official doesn’t take long to correct the situation with, as yesterday, the 4 other stages to his credit! Behind the Gas Gas official shows an impressive regularity which does not leave the slightest respite to Garcia since at the end of the 2 days, the two boys are only separated by about ten seconds! We are already looking forward to a direct confrontation tomorrow. Behind the two leaders, the first Frenchman, Till De Clercq. As a real metronome, on rolling stages with a lot of difference in altitude, he signs once again an excellent day with a third place of the day and of the provisional (3/3/10/3/3). The Dafy KTM rider must absolutely be counted on for the general classification. We were talking about the common point of the record number of podiums of Julien Gauthier and Manu Albepart, the two lived an almost similar day before knowing a more contrasted SP4 for Julien and a mistake of Manu which cost him many seconds! A Junior who makes sensation, more used to MX and SX circuits, the 2021 French SX2 Champion, Julien Roussaly signs an excellent 5th place overall! We know that Julien is riding with a slight ankle injury, but he is very comfortable between the banners. To watch carefully tomorrow during the more difficult stages… Valérian Debaud, Antoine Alix, Killian Lunier and Antoine Basset complete the top 10. Loic Larrieu had to give up in the middle of the day because he didn’t manage to correct his problems of yesterday.

The Gévaudan and the Aubrac to establish the final hierarchy

A slightly shorter day tomorrow with 174 km on the tracks of the Bestia, the beast of Gévaudan. A particularly important, interesting and usual feature of the Trèfe is that the start is given in the opposite direction of the numbers. We should therefore find for the leaders more typical EnduroGP stages, more marked with the passage of several hundred riders. This can considerably change the situation. A line to attack the morning before continuing with 4 banderoles.

Till De Clercq – DAFY KTM:

“After 2 days of racing, I feel really good, it’s a little surprise to find myself in the front row. I’m really happy with my first two days, I didn’t make any major mistakes in the stages. In the daytime SP3, I did 10 but it was close on time, I am only 3 seconds behind the leader. Today the stages were really smooth, tomorrow is going to be more marked with the start in reverse order so obviously Garcia and Verona will be even more formidable but I’ll do my best!”
